Participant Testimonial: Haya Alshekh

Haya, a 25-year-old from Latakia, Syria, graduated with a degree in Computer and Automatic Control Engineering two years ago. Despite her determination to find work in her field, she faced significant challenges in securing a job related to her expertise. To make ends meet, she worked for seven months in a furniture company and later transitioned to a position with the Red Crescent organization, where she contributed to community service initiatives. However, Haya’s ambition to enhance her skills and open new career opportunities led her to seek additional training.

Haya learned about Humans in the Loop (HITL) through a non-profit organization called Paper Airplanes, which informed her about their partnership with HITL. Her first encounter with HITL was through our HITL Intro to Graphic Design course. Inspired by the quality of the program, she joined two additional training opportunities: the English Speaking Club and the HITL Intro to UI/UX Design.

Haya’s participation in the English Speaking Club marked a turning point in her journey to mastering English. Prior to joining the program, she struggled with articulating her thoughts clearly in English. She described the program as an invaluable resource for improving her fluency and boosting her confidence.

Haya particularly appreciated the interactive activities during the sessions. She highlighted how these activities strengthened her communication, listening, and critical thinking skills.

“These activities had a magical effect on my ability to communicate effectively and manage discussions”

Through the English Speaking Club, Haya developed critical soft skills, such as public speaking, active listening, and teamwork, which are essential for advancing in any field.

Haya’s story is a testament to the transformative power of HITL’s programs. From overcoming her fear of speaking English to gaining confidence in her communication skills, Haya’s journey reflects HITL’s mission to empower individuals and prepare them for a brighter future.

As Haya herself put it:

“This program gave me the confidence to express my thoughts freely in English, despite making mistakes. It’s okay to make mistakes because it’s all part of the learning process”
