Participant Testimonial: Malehek Yik Bol
Malehek Yik Bol is a professional web developer and data annotator from South Sudan, who currently resides in Kenya. Passionate about technology and its transformative impact on daily life, Yik also enjoys indoor sports in his free time.
Yik discovered Humans in the Loop (HITL) through a partnership with Learning Lions, the organization where he had already been taking courses and participating in various training programs. His journey began with data annotation training, which included working on a paid mock project that enhanced his skills. Following the training, he was selected as a member of the Beneficiary Advisor Board representing the Kenya team. In this role, Yik has participated in various meetings, sharing community feedback and offering valuable ideas. He has also contributed to client projects, annotating over 7,900 images.
Through HITL, Yik has developed a range of skills that have significantly impacted both his personal and professional life. These include proficiency in data annotation, time management, active listening, communication, and leadership.
Yik has also participated in HITL’s Career Counseling Program which enhanced his understanding of how to market himself effectively and learn more about CV writing, crafting appealing online profiles, and improving his overall career readiness. Describing the program, he says:
“It was amazing as I got to learn a lot. It has sharpened my skills in areas such as CV and cover letter writing, while also teaching me how to craft an appealing online profile”
Yik credits HITL for improving his confidence in professional communication and his ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively. He describes the overall experience as:

Outside of work, HITL has had a transformative effect on Yik’s life. He feels more focused, proactive, and motivated, with a clearer sense of direction. His advice to others considering HITL is to approach it with an open mind, embrace the challenges, and stay committed to personal and professional growth.
