Participant Testimonial: Suzan Suleiman

Suzan Suleiman was born in Syria and was forced to leave her country nine years ago due to the war. She now resides in Çorum, Türkiye, where she is flourishing as both a chemical engineer and a project leader. Suzan graduated from the Chemical Engineering department at Hitit University, where she was among the top students in her class.
Currently employed at a production factory as a quality control officer, Suzan has also previously secured numerous internships in research and chemical engineering. She has volunteered extensively with various organizations, especially those supporting conflict-affected individuals and refugees. Suzan says:
“I really enjoy volunteering. It has always been incredible for me to help people and even enhance the community, especially for refugees. I was a refugee before, so I understand how it feels to be one, particularly when you don’t know the language, what to do, or how to get your rights.”
Suzan’s journey with Humans in the Loop started through our partner organization “Paper Airplanes” which introduced her to the foundation. She then benefited from our career counseling services where she learned basic career growth skills such as resume building, job searching among many others.
“I had a great experience during my career counseling sessions with HITL, the program provided me with valuable insights towards career planning and professional growth”
Suzan thought that her career counselor was inspiring as their tips were practical and personalized. She thought that the sessions made her better understand her strengths and align them with her career aspirations. She also found the sessions interactive in nature and transformative in her professional journey.
“The career counseling was different from other similar programs” added Suzan. After conducting the first couple of sessions she decided to book more as she thought the style of the sessions was attractive and highly beneficial.
“Before these sessions, I only had one CV that I used to apply for all the job opportunities I encountered. I also was writing my cover letters in the wrong way. But now everything changed, as I’m now able to apply to jobs more confidently knowing that I have a real chance of getting accepted”
For the future, Suzan will use what she learned during the career counseling sessions to apply for better jobs and will follow her passion for chemical engineering, while also volunteering and doing great for both herself and her society.
