Participant Testimonial: Tamara Sergiienko

Tamara Sergiienko is 34 years old, she is from Ukraine and has been staying in Bulgaria since June 2022. She is a lawyer and for 11 years worked in the state tax authorities of Ukraine. In Bulgaria, she began to learn the language, and from September 2022 she has been working in a non-governmental organization The Foundation for Access to Rights – FAR, which provides legal assistance to immigrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and stateless persons in situations that reveal systematic problems with access to rights. Tamara works as a translator from Ukrainian and Russian into Bulgarian and vice versa. Developing her language skills is part of her daily work.
Tamara has been interested in jurisprudence and the legal profession since childhood, but she also likes creative activities as a hobby, such as design, photography, and pole dancing. During her university studies, she additionally had the opportunity to work on annotation and gained experience in a car number recognition project.
In Bulgaria, Tamara confirmed her educational qualifications of a Master of Laws, and considering that she has the status of a displaced person with temporary protection, she found an opportunity to implement her work skills in an expanded field.
Her first interaction with Humans in the Loop came through the Personal Development programme with Ahmed Bazoon, who supported her with job-seeking and course-taking opportunities in HITL. Tamara started taking courses with HITL in 2022 and completed annotation training and successfully graduated from the latest HITL Business Analytics course. She is now attending the HITL Digital Marketing course which aims to provide trainees with skills useful for digital marketing specialists or/and people who would like to work from home as freelance marketers. The HITL Business Analytics course was quite interesting for her, but she found the mathematical aspects of it quite complicated.
“The Business Analytics trainer was very patient and explained everything very well, so the course was hard but pleasant once you start understanding.”
Tamara maintains the level of previously acquired skills and expands the scope of her knowledge with the aim of applying it in new areas.
