Celebrating 8 Years of Humans in the Loop
Eight years ago, Humans in the Loop (HITL) was born out of a simple but powerful idea: to make AI projects more ethical, reliable, and human-centered, while creating dignified digital work opportunities for people from conflict-affected communities.
Fast forward to today, HITL works with 100+ leading AI teams worldwide and empowers thousands through the HITL Foundation – our nonprofit arm focused on training and providing remote work opportunities for displaced individuals.
To mark this milestone, we hosted our HITL 8th Birthday Webinar: 8 Stories That Made a Difference, bringing together our team, partners, beneficiaries, and community for an inspiring look back, and forward.
8 Stories That Shaped Our Journey
To celebrate our 8th birthday, we reflected on eight defining stories that have shaped Humans in the Loop’s journey so far. These are stories of growth, challenge, collaboration, and empowerment — shared by our clients, partners, funders, and team.
Each one is a reminder that HITL is not just about data annotation or AI services. At its heart, HITL is about people: the learners gaining new skills, the annotators building meaningful careers, the partners and funders who believe in our mission, and the team members who make it all possible.
Together, these stories show what’s possible when humans and AI work hand in hand – creating technology that serves people, uplifts communities, and builds a future that is more ethical, inclusive, and human-centered.
A Dual Mission: Business + Foundation
At Humans in the Loop, our story has always had two interconnected sides:
- The Business, delivering high-quality, ethical, and human-centered data annotation services to over 100 leading AI teams.
- The Foundation, empowering conflict-affected individuals with training, skills, and digital work opportunities that transform lives.
In eight years, the HITL Foundation has already transformed the lives of more than 1,700 people. But millions of conflict-affected individuals worldwide are still waiting for opportunities to learn, grow, and access dignified digital work.
That’s why during our 8th Birthday Webinar, we launched an anniversary fundraising campaign with a goal of $8,000. Every contribution helps us expand training programs, connect more people to remote jobs, and create real impact where it’s needed most.
