Tech for and with refugees
Humans in the Loop is proud to have been selected to present our solution at the Main Stage of this year’s Techfugees Global Summit and to inaugurate our mission to connect conflict-affected people to remote work and training opportunities.
Techfugees is a global non-profit organization coordinating the commitment of tech community to build solutions for displaced people and empower them. The organization is behind the Techfugees Global Summit which brings together refugees and different actors of the ecosystem to discuss and debate the various uses of technology for displaced people during the time of migration until arrival to their new host societies.
The first edition of the Global Summit took place under the theme of “The refugee journey” in the world’s largest startup campus, Station F, in Paris on October 25th and 26th 2017. More than 500 social entrepreneurs, refugee engineers, impact investors, policy makers and NGOs from 37 countries gathered at Station F to talk about tech for and with refugees and empowering displaced populations.
Inauguration of HITL
This was the first public appearance of Humans in the Loop at which we presented our idea and the work that we have done so far in order to promote the integration of refugees and asylum-seekers in Bulgaria. Out of the 42 organizations which presented their solutions at the summit, Humans in the Loop was chosen as one of the most prominent eight which spoke at the main stage.
The criteria used by the Techfugees committee were 1) relevance to the actual needs of refugees, 2) financial, cultural, legal and operational feasibility, 3) well-defined net impact on the lives of the displaced, 4) innovation and disruption and 5) scale-up potential and sustainability. A recording of the pitches can be seen here.
