Humans in the Loop (HITL) is a certified B Corp and award-winning social enterprise based in Sofia, Bulgaria. It offers conflict-affected and displaced individuals remote digital work and training in AI data annotation. Operating as a hybrid between a B2B outsourcing company and a non-profit foundation, HITL collaborates with global AI companies across various sectors, such as medical imagery, geospatial technology, and automotive AI, ensuring reliable and inclusive AI systems. By partnering with NGOs worldwide, HITL provides livelihood opportunities and skills training, having supported over 1,000 people in 10 countries and served more than 120 AI companies.
Impact Highlights from 2023
In 2023, Humans in the Loop made significant strides in supporting conflict-affected and displaced individuals through its training programs and projects:
- 214 active annotators working across various locations, providing remote digital work opportunities.
- 106 annotation projects completed, contributing to AI development in multiple sectors, such as medical imagery and geospatial technology.
- 220 graduates from instructor-led courses, equipping individuals with essential skills for remote digital work.
- 44 training programs delivered, reflecting our commitment to ongoing skills development and education.
- 62% of our beneficiaries found long-term job opportunities, demonstrating the real impact of our training initiatives.
Having seen the positive impact of our programs in 2023, we want to share the stories of some of our beneficiaries to illustrate the real, human impact behind the numbers.
