To improve the lives of conflict-affected people through the use of technology and innovation
HITL Stars
This program offers asylum seekers and refugees the opportunity to learn new skills and increase their employment prospects. It has 3 components:
- 3 months of digital skills training
- 3 months of English language tuition
- Career counseling
The first two cohorts of the HITL Stars program were generously funded by the Bulgarian Fund for Women.
HITL Business Stars
Our new 12-week training programme for refugee entrepreneurs will give them a head start in setting up their own small business, and will include:
- Support with business plan development
- Basic graphic design to create logos and marketing materials
- Basic training on how to create a website or online shop using Wordpress
The first cohort of the HITL Business Stars program is made possible due to the support of the Andan Foundation.
English language partnerships
English language skills are key to anyone working as online freelancers or in the IT industry. We were therefore delighted to start a three month long program matching asylum seekers and volunteers from Tuk-Tam to meet online once per week and practice their English language. 26 people participated in the most recent edition of the program.
Meet a professional
It's difficult trying to find a job in a new country! That's why Humans in the Loop and Tuk-Tam organized online meetings between refugees and Bulgarian professionals who work in a sector that they are interested in. Each of the participants was given personalized feedback on their CVs and interview skills, as well as advice about finding suitable job and training opportunities.
Training of Trainers
We regularly organize ToT sessions with NGOs working with conflict-affected people in other countries, so that they are equipped to train their beneficiaries on image collection and annotation. To date, we have held ToT sessions for NGOs in Afghanistan, Colombia, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria and Turkey. A further pilot in Portugal is planned in 2021, with support from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
